Born in Taber, Alberta, I grew up on the family farm in the Readymade area until 1966, when our large Van Rijn family relocated to Coaldale. I’ve proudly called Coaldale home ever since. As the youngest of eighteen siblings, I learned early the importance of collaboration, communication, and consensus.

I’m a proud parent of three grown children and a grandfather to six wonderful grandchildren, with whom I cherish every moment spent together.

For 35 years, I was the owner and partner of Van Rijn Electric Ltd. Throughout that time, I also devoted countless volunteer hours—raising funds and actively participating in community projects and events. These efforts allowed me to build strong, lasting relationships with many residents in Coaldale and the surrounding area.

Many Coaldale residents have expressed a growing need for change—specifically in how Town Council and administration communicate with, respond to, and treat residents and business owners. I believe respectful dialogue and genuine engagement are essential to moving our community forward.

As your mayor, I am committed to making Coaldale an even better place to live, work, and do business—for you, your family, your neighbors, and everyone who calls this great town home.
